It is the dawn of yet another year which of course will come with its challenges, mostly financial. That is why people claim that money makes the world go round. The bible puts it even better, money answers all things. It is for this reason I think it is important to have a financial plan early in the year.
Every New Year people usually set to do things is a new way, in other words they make new resolutions. When it comes to financial issues you will hear someone say that he will spend less, save more cash or initiate a business project that he has always had in mind. As for those who are career minded will say that they will look for better jobs.
Making resolutions year in, year out never really bares fruit, it is only when you act on your resolutions do you make progress in your financial growth. A resolution can only work out once a decision is reached at. So if you resolve to spend less this year you should not be overspending on a new year’s celebration. Decide from the beginning of the year to minimize your spending.
The reason why most financial plans fail is because they have no time-lines. Most people wait for certain events to happen so as to start saving, like when I get a new job or when the business starts picking up. The problem of doing that is that even when such an events occurs, most people forget or postpone.
The best approach would be for example, to have a yearly personal financial plan but make sure you assess and review your progress maybe quarterly. All said and done financial planning is a journey thus if you are to reach your destination you must be determined and focused.
