Career Development – Learning From Your Mistakes

When it comes to developing yourself it is always advisable to not only accept your mistakes but also learn from them. Twice beaten twice shy is an adage you should take seriously, since failure to do that may result to stagnation in your career development. Experience is known to be the best teacher, therefore learn to pick yourself up whenever you plunder.



When you apply for a job and get a regret letter, it does not harm to ask an employer the reasons that may have influenced them to opt for another candidate other than you. Many may view this as a lack of confidence, but that is not the case.



By asking this, it may prove that you want to improve on your weak points and hence know how to approach your next job interview. A good human resource manage will definitely share with you this information and even layout to you what you can do to improve. You also may never know the next time an opening is available, the employer may just consider you on the grounds that you are someone willing to be corrected.



It is good to realize that other people are better judges of our performance and will identify the areas you need to work on which might not necessarily be noticeable to you. It would be of no use when advised not to take action and correcting your mistakes. Therefore, implement the advice presented to you to the latter. In time this will equip you on how to approach future interviews and hence have an edge over other candidates.
