First, one should understand that every quality or skill that you want to acquire you should start to keep the company of people who already have it. Hang out with people who are ahead of you so that they can propel you up and not pull you down. This is because naturally you will feel challenged to achieve success. Am not saying that you should completely ignore those that are below you, actually you need them to be there so that you can lead them.
A good leader is supposed to be distinguished from his subordinates. Carry yourself with dignity. The way you dress, the way you talk and your behavior will determine whether your juniors will respect you or not. For instance a good leader should never be the one misbehaving in company parties because he had a lot to drink. To your juniors, you should be the role model thus portraying your leadership qualities.
To succeed as a leader, you must discover your God given potential. Through discovering who you are and the power that lies within you to make a difference, you develop self awareness and self confidence required to lead other people accordingly.
Every leader should go through a phase of self leadership and become a master of themselves first so that they can be are ready, able and willing to lead others. Continually update your leadership capabilities so that you can stand out and be attractive to others. This way they will trust you and listen to what you have to say.
